Searching the MLS® for propertyMost people know about the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS). This is a database service that contains information on almost all property for sale in Canada. The main exception to this is newly constructed buildings, which are marketed by the developer.
The MLS® is good news for you as a buyer because you have an online database that you can search. It is a sophisticated system with a lot of information. As a member of the public you have access to a lot of that information. But not all of it. Your REALTOR® has access to more details, that, as your representative, they are duty bound to tell you.
As a seller you are also assured that your property is accessible to anyone who is looking. Your listing REALTOR®, hopefully, will be doing more marketing on your behalf.
We have pulled together some useful links for property searches. Most of these go off site to the MLS® and let you use the search facilities to look for property in the area. The exception is Vancouver.
Because we are both licensed realtors, we have access to more sophisticated search facilities - but only within our licensing real estate board. So if you are interested in the greater Vancouver area, you will see more detailed searches have been predefined for you. These are on the Greater Vancouver page.
Below is a summary of the MLS areas with the major cities in each area.
