Fries with that?

It is only when reality comes a hits you in the stomach that you realise just how much you have adapted to being in Canada.

Our first meal here in England was a pub lunch. Cheese and pickle sandwich with chips. We were surprised to find that the chips were what we now call fries. And what we wanted were crisps, as we used to call chips.

Confusing isn’t it! I blame jet lag.

But the other thing we noticed was the poor service. Slow, slap dash and without any sign of friendliness. My waitress dropped a slice of tomato off my plate as she delivered it. She calmly kicked the tomato under the table. Job done!

I can’t blame jet lag for this.
