Valentines Day

Canada celebrates Valentine’s day in a big way. It is the second biggest day of the year for the flower shops. (Mother’s Day is the biggest). Restaurants do very well too. In fact try getting a reservation at this late stage for anywhere halfway decent and you are in big trouble.

Two of our gourmet restaurants, Lumière and DB Diner announced that they would charge no-shows for the full price of their dinner if they did not show up. They don’t want to miss out on the feeding frenzy that is Valentine’s Day.

What about me, you ask? Well I did get a reservation for the Boathouse in Horseshoe Bay. The view of the harbour, mountains and the lobster festival combine to make this a popular romantic venue. Now, I confess that I was a bit slow off the mark and my reservation choices were either unfashionably early or stomach (unromantically) grumbling late. I opted for early. I just hope the gas station has a good selection of flowers to complete my romantic gesture!
