This week is reading break for our daughter, Megan. She is in her first year at UVic (University of Victoria) so we are still getting used to her being away. And more so to her visits.
These are a bit like an espresso – short and intense. Megan arrives, usually late at night having been on the ferry, but stopped off to see friends en route.
Her short time “with us” is a mix of seeing all her friends, borrowing my car whenever possible and getting her laundry done. And a few dollars get extracted from the Bank of Dad too.
Megan brought a friend to stay too. He has been out and about, snowboarding one day, out to see friends and pretty much doing what Megan does – but without borrowing my car or withdrawing from this branch of the Bank of Dad.
Tonight we are hosting a boyfriend’s dinner. All three of our daughters are bringing their boyfriends. Greg, our son, has opted out of bringing a girl friend – perhaps wisely. It does mean that there’s got to be a lot of food on offer. Having raised three girls we had not really appreciated just how much boys eat.
This week it has been a struggle to keep enough food in the house. I am off to Costco now to re-stock.
